Gabriel Project Mumbai is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the Health Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) a government agency -to expand and strengthen healthcare services at GPM’s Shravan Health Center, located in the heart of the Kalwa slums.
After eight years of operating the only community medical
clinic inside the Kalwa slums, GPM’s work has been recognized at the
highest levels. The TMC has approached us to join forces—an extraordinary
testament to the impact we have created together with the community. This
is a powerful example of how dedicated grassroots work by a non-profit can
inspire government partnership and trust.
What This Partnership Means
Under this new collaboration, TMC is significantly expanding
the clinic’s capacity and services:
- Extended
Hours: The clinic will now run full-time, 10:00am–6:00pm, under
TMC management.
- More
Professional Medical Staff: TMC will staff the OPD (Out-Patient
Department) with its own doctors, nurses, a full-time pharmacist –
as well other on site and outreach medical support staff
- Increased
supply of medication. Our pharmacy will be fully stocked by the
government approved drugs and offered to patients at drastically reduced
prices
- Strengthening
Preventive Care: Weekly immunization camps will continue, along with
expanded health awareness sessions on nutrition, breastfeeding,
menstrual health, and more.
- Maternal
& Child Health: New programs will support pregnant women, new
mothers, and young children, with a focus on antenatal care and early
childhood wellbeing.
- Community
Outreach: A team of community health nurses will actively reach out to
families across Kalwa’s densely populated lanes.
TMC will cover all healthcare-related operational costs,
while GPM will continue to contribute by management and maintenance of the
facility, by supporting a medical coordinator, and ensuring safe drinking water
for patients and staff.
Impact: Tripling the Number of People Treated
This partnership dramatically expands the scale of care we
can offer.
Until now, Shravan Health Center treated an average of 33
patients a day—about 12,000 people a year. With TMC’s larger medical
team and resources, we expect to treat 100 patients a day or more—over 36,000
people annually.
This is three times the number of individuals
receiving essential healthcare.
